Mission & Vision:
“Pamoja” meaning together in Kiswahili encapsulates our mission – to work together with Evangelical Christians in Africa in response to Jesus’ command to take care of the poor, widows, and orphans.
By equipping African church leaders with resources and tools, Pamoja seeks to motivate and mobilize these leaders to share the love of Christ with children in need so they may experience true rehabilitation, restoration, and renewal. Our faith in Jesus holds Pamoja together.
Where We Work:
Pamoja is a registered charity in the UK and a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) in Kenya. Pamoja is facilitated by unpaid volunteers and 100% of donations go directly to the point of need in Africa. Our ministries are currently located all across Kenya.
In the UK, Pamoja is run by the UK Trustees. In Kenya, Pamoja is run by the Kenyan Trustees. The work of Pamoja would not be possible without the generous donations of so many individuals and organizations. Thank you so much for your continued support. Together we can make a difference.
Pamoja means together in Kiswahili. The story of Pamoja is God’s story. It’s a story of how God has been working together with His people to accomplish His work. The Bible tells us in Ephesians 2:8-10 that it is by grace that we have been saved, through faith in Jesus – and this is not from ourselves, it is the gift of God – not by our works, so that no one can boast. It says that we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
Pamoja is the story of a handful of people listening to Jesus’ call to take care of the poor, widows, and orphans. It started when a pastor in Kenya approached Tim and Sheena Griffin in 1997 to see if they could find someone to help a few children in his congregation. These families were too poor to afford school fees and uniforms. Tim and Sheena responded to Jesus’ call and Pamoja was born.
In the past 17 years, we have witnessed God do amazing things! He has touched many hearts and called many alongside the Griffins in the work He is doing here in Kenya. Through the help and support of many faithful supporters, staff, and volunteers, God has added to the work of Pamoja. The Bible tells us that he who is faithful with little will be given much.
Pamoja now sponsors over 250 children to go to school all over Kenya. Pamoja started Mier Pamoja Academy, a primary school serving over 200 children. The Mier Pamoja Care Center is a short walk from the school and is a home for 32 orphaned children. Pamoja built and operates the Endau Clinic, providing much needed medical care for Endau and the surrounding villages. The Kware Care Center was started in a slum outside Nairobi called Ongata Rongai, and is home to 18 orphaned and vulnerable children. Pamoja came alongside Pastor Shigonde and the work his church was doing with street boys in a slum called Kawangware. Covenant Street Ministry is now home for 22 former street boys, they do outreaches twice a week for boys still living on the streets, and work to share the Good News of Jesus Christ with the police officers ordered to kill the boys. Pamoja also supports the Tala Projects in Tala, Kenya where they have a primary school, form school, orphanage, medical clinic, various micro-finance projects, and have planted over 30 churches in the surrounding villages!
Each one of these ministries have a story all their own. Pamoja is always praying for and looking to see who God will call next to join alongside us in the adventure He has prepared for us here in Africa. Would you prayerfully consider joining together with us in His story here?
